Superalloys for Furnace Parts

Short answer: we supply nickel-based and iron-based superalloys — Inconel 600/601/625, Incoloy 800H/825/901, Hastelloy C-276, and heat-resistant cast/wrought grades — as bar, plate, sheet, tube and formed parts.

Do you actually need a superalloy?
Superalloys cost several times what a heat-resistant stainless does. They earn their price when you need creep strength above 900 °C, resistance to a specific corrosive species, or strength that survives repeated thermal cycling. If the part simply runs hot in clean air, 310S or 253MA will often do the job for a fraction of the cost. Tell us the duty and we will tell you honestly which side of that line you are on.

1. Common grades and where they fit

FamilyGradesTypical capabilityFurnace use
Iron-basedIncoloy 800H / 800HTGood creep strength to ≈ 1,100 °C in airFurnace tubes, muffle, trays
Iron-basedIncoloy 825Excellent against reducing acids and chloridePickling and chemical service
Nickel-basedInconel 600 / 601Oxidation resistance to ≈ 1,200 °CRetorts, radiant tubes, baskets
Nickel-basedInconel 625High strength plus corrosion resistanceSevere combined duty
Nickel-basedHastelloy C-276Very broad chemical resistanceWet chlorine, mixed acids
Heat-resistant steel310S, 253MA, 309SGood to ≈ 1,150 °C at much lower costFurniture, trays, supports

2. Forms

FormRange
Bar / rodφ10 – 200 mm (dimensions to order)
Plate / sheetthickness 1 – 100 mm
Tube / pipeOD 6 – 219 mm
Formed partstrays, baskets, fixtures, to drawing

3. What a superalloy choice really hinges on

  1. Temperature and time — creep is a time-at-temperature problem, not a peak-temperature problem.
  2. Atmosphere — oxidation, carburisation, sulphidation and chlorination each point to a different alloy family.
  3. Thermal cycling — a part that cycles daily needs thermal-fatigue resistance, which is a different property from creep strength.
  4. Whether the part is structural — a tray that only holds parts has very different requirements from a load-bearing beam.

4. Please confirm these 4 points before ordering

  1. Grade or duty — if you have a grade, give it; if not, give the temperature, atmosphere and whether it cycles.
  2. Form and size — bar, plate, tube, or a drawing.
  3. Quantity — superalloy is usually available in small quantities but priced accordingly.
  4. Certification — mill certificate with heat number is standard; third-party inspection on request.
