Refractory & Insulation for Furnace Linings

Short answer: we supply ceramic fibre blanket, board and modules (1260 and 1430 grades), plus anchors and accessories, selected against the shell-temperature target and the furnace atmosphere.

Linings fail at the anchor, not in the fibre
When a lining falls down, the fibre is usually still intact — it has come away from the shell. Three causes account for most of it: anchor spacing too wide for the thickness, no ceramic washer, and no pre-compression. Fibre shrinks 2–3% at working temperature; if it was installed at nominal thickness, the shrinkage opens gaps, hot gas reaches the shell, the anchors oxidise and thin, and the lining drops.

1. Grades

GradeClassification temp.Typical use
1260 fibre blanket1,260 °CGeneral furnace linings, backing insulation
1430 fibre blanket1,430 °CHot face in high-temperature furnaces
Ceramic fibre board1,260 °CLoad-bearing insulation, expansion joints
Folded modules1,260 / 1,430 °CFast installation, good resistance to shrinkage gaps

2. Installation parameters

ItemRecommendedWhy
Thickness150 – 300 mmSet by shell temperature target and furnace temperature
Density96 – 128 kg/m³Higher density resists gas erosion; lower insulates better
Anchor spacing200 – 250 mmWider spacing lets the fibre pull away
Pre-compression15 – 20%Compensates for shrinkage at temperature
Ceramic washerAlwaysSpreads load and slows anchor oxidation

3. Please confirm these 4 points before ordering

  1. Furnace temperature and shell-temperature target — these two set the thickness.
  2. Atmosphere — hydrogen and reducing atmospheres react with some fibre binders.
  3. Whether the lining is hot-face or backing — modules and blanket are used differently.
  4. Who installs it — if the pre-compression step will be skipped, say so and we will advise a different system.
